A great chef is an artist who loves his craft. The ability to delight people with food is a compulsory bonus.
That’s the case at Let’s Eat, Inc. in Bluff Dale, Texas. Lunch is Texas Steak Sandwiches and ½ Pound Cheese Burgers with secret recipe fries. Dinner is a jeans-wearing melt-in-your-mouth experience amid Butter Poached Lobster with Mac-N-Cheese or Cabrito Enchiladas with Smoked Onion Cream. Love fresh fish? It’s flown in from Honolulu, Hawaii.
The mastermind behind this culinary fare is tireless chef de cuisine Curren Dodds, whose “life’s too short, eat dessert first” personality opened Let’s Eat five years ago. Set in a converted 1900-era post office, this restaurant rivals any AAA Four-Diamond dining establishment or celebrity chef circuit (not that he hasn’t already been there, done that). Executive Chef Dodds touches the nitty gritty of everyday life with an honest dignity in the unassuming yet exacting quality of his handiwork. He delivers gourmet cuisine from his open kitchen “playground” with a skullcap and an uncanny ability to connect to his patrons. Occasionally, his sous-chef de cuisine son, Max, helps out.
For those “foodies” out there, Chef Dodds has plenty of street cred. He’s worked with Carsten Kruze, Executive Chef Mark Gouronc, Executive Chef Doug George, Executive Chef Gerard Thompson, Executive Sous Chef Kirsten Guldbranson, and celebrity chefs Stephen Pyles and Grady Spears. His innovative creations graced the doors of the Omni Mandalay Las Colinas, the Dutch Regal, La Cima, Rough Creek Lodge, the Silverado Steakhouse, and The Cliffs at Possum Kingdom Lake.
Now, he’s outgrown his old shoes, and needs to upgrade. He’ll soon be expanding to a new door across the street, and striking out on a new venture with Barking Rocks Winery (a Muscat sorbet anyone?). It remains to be “scene,” but it appears this chef-of-all-trades is full of surprises.
